A research team at Sophia University in Tokyo has published an online “Bear Encounter AI Map” that predicts the risk of human bear encounters based on environmental data, road networks, and past sightings.

Once again, it shows how essential AI has become for humanity. Thanks to it, Japan now has Google Maps for bear hotspots. 🐻

Highlights: Asian markets slumped sharply into the weekend. The KOSPI tumbled 3.81% – the third-biggest drop of the year.

  • The trigger was a global sell-off in tech and chip stocks. Among others, Japanese chipmaker Kioxia sank 18% on Thursday after weak earnings and lost another 23% the next day. The stock is still up more than 500% this year.
