📈 US–China trade war weighs on Asian markets
In Shanghai and Shenzhen, the benchmark CSI 300 and Shanghai Composite indices fell by just under 2%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng dropped by more than 2%. Investors reacted to Donald Trump’s threat to impose 100% tariffs on Chinese exports starting November 1, while Beijing defended its export restrictions on rare earths.
Trump’s subsequent U-turn on Truth Social on Sunday brought brief relief:
“Don’t worry about China, it will all be fine! Highly respected President Xi just had a bad moment. He doesn’t want Depression for his country, and neither do I. The U.S.A. wants to help China, not hurt it!!! – President DJT”

NBA China and Alibaba Cloud have entered a multi-year partnership. The timing is no coincidence: after a six-year break, the league is making its comeback with two games between the Brooklyn Nets and the Phoenix Suns in Macao.
As the official AI and cloud partner of NBA China, Alibaba Cloud will provide technology for replays, data analysis, and fan engagement. Joe Tsai, Alibaba CEO and owner of the Nets, called it the perfect fusion of sports and technology.
